1770 Peated - Release No.1 46% 25ml

Whisky

Whisky of the week #22

1770 Peated - Release No.1 46%

This is a peated expression, made specifically with heather-rich peat from the highlands. After distillation, the whisky was matured in first-fill ex-sherry casks and allowed a finishing period in virgin oak casks (whereas the unpeated 1770 Whisky is aged in bourbon casks before being finished in virgin oak).

How does it taste?
Nose: Zesty orange and a hint of quince, juxtaposed by wafts of floral smoke.
Palate: Toasty oak and burnt sugar, with dried fruit richness building.
Finish: Slightly nutty on the finish, though earthy peat continues on and on.

Why did I choose this whisky?
During a bit of a wild evenings drinking at a whisky bar in London, (a revisit for my stag night) we came across this whisky and I have some blurred memories of everyone asking me to get this whisky for the compass and waving it in my face. Well it’s taken a while, but here it is Stag Night #2 Whisky#1!
