Thornbridge Brewery was founded in 2005 by Jim Harrison and Simon Webster, brewing on a second-hand kit in the outbuildings of Thornbridge Hall at Bakewell. Their first brew was Lord Marples, a classic bitter, and later that year Jaipur, an India pale ale built around American hops, established the brewery's reputation. Demand outstripped what the Hall site could produce, and in 2009 a new brewery was built at Riverside in Bakewell, which is where Thornbridge brews today; the original kit stands beside the Riverside taproom and is still used for smaller and experimental brews.
