Description: This was originally launched for the duty free market, and it is a tour de force from the Islay distillery. First off, they mature this in bourbon barrels, before transfer into quarter casks, and a third maturation in Oloroso sherry European oak butts.
Distillery: Laphroaig Distillery70cl, 48%
nose: Oily toffee. Butter some smoke dates and nuts.
palate: Dry and medicinal (iodine) and spices. Dry and a bit dank with the wood character coming to the for, like your grandads' old shed or autumnal woodland. The sheery barrel then appears with some fruitcake and then the expected smoke.
Finish: Oaked. The wood carries into the finish, mixed with oily spices and dried fruit.
