Whisky of the week #10
Royal Lochnagar 12 yo 40%
Lochnagar received their royal warrant from Queen Victoria, who appreciated the dram when staying in near by Balmoral. A quiet, classic and understated Highland whisky as they used to be.
How does it taste?
Nose: Creamy, aromatic nose with hints of hay, malted barley, oak and mixed peels.
Palate: Soft smoke and gingerbread, oodles of toasty spices, Demerara sugar and boiled sweets.
Finish: The finish is all about grass and honey.
Why did I choose this whisky?
Old friends. This is my best friend’s , and incidentally best man, favourite whisky of old. He lives in Norfolk and I have not seen him and his family (apart from a few hours walk on the downs last year) since before the first lockdown. So this whisky is for all of us who are missing friends and loved ones to raise a glass to seeing them again soon
