Whisky of the Week #16
Powers John's Lane Release 12 Year Old Single Pot Still 46%
A multi award winning single pot still release of Powers whiskey. It's matured for 12 years in a combination of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks. Named after the distillery where it was first made, which is sadly closed now, a really fine and balanced pot still.
How does it taste?
Nose: Cereal, Copper, Leather and fruit.
Palate: Vanilla, and spice lead into chocolate and coffee. Maybe some rich raisin and currant flavours too.
Finish: Vanilla again with some hints of tack room and brass.
Why did I choose this whisky?
Well this is going to be the last of the 4 home nations whiskies running alongside the rugby and saved also for St Patrick’s Day. Irish Pot still is possibly my favourite style of whisky, and I remember my first bottle of Pot Still (Redbreast 12) blowing my mind. This style of whisky has so much balance depth and flavour combined with an oily texture to give a long finish like no other whisky.
