Whisky of the week No:7
Irish whiskey is enjoying a big revival, and has been fr a number of years. The Kilbeggan Distilling Co. had been producing their traditional blend at the Cooley distillery, but we have been treated to some excellent malts under the Connemara branding and this is a great peated expression!
How does it taste?
Nose: Sweet barley (touch of barley water) with wafts of peaty smoke, kippers and well baked apple crumble.
Palate: Lightly honey sweet, subdued clean rather than sooty smoke with peaty vegetal notes, sweet barley water, light spice and vanilla oak.
Finish: Lingering smoke, spicy oak and sweet almonds.
Why did I choose this whisky?
Well I do have fond memories of island, and have always been a lover of Irish Pot Still, but we need something different here, and a very close friend of mine bought me a bottle of this for my birthday last year and he is having a hard time of it, so this is in his honour!
